David Nickle
As the research specialist and creative director for the Gunslinger's Shadow project, I bring over a decade of experience as an Intelligence Officer for the United States Army, with deployments spanning the globe. Transitioning my skills to outlaw research, my father Ross and I are on a mission to uncover the identities of some of history's most notorious and elusive Western outlaws. My focus lies in forensic genealogy, where I excel at establishing the identities of historical figures through meticulous DNA testing, family tree analysis, and historical data triangulation. Beyond my professional pursuits, I am a proud father of six and a passionate enthusiast of history.

I'm a descendant of William (Bill) Henry Long, a man who family stories say ran with the likes of Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid, and the McCarty Brothers. Our family has researched his true identity for generations, and I carry on that legacy. We've finally made real progress in the past few decades, and that's what Gunslinger's Shadow is all about!

I'm a proud father of two (with a third on the way) and a software engineer by trade. I spend my free time with my kids or writing and playing guitar songs. I've been out with Dad to the real Robber's Roost in southern Utah, a place that few people know even exists apart from the traditional locations for it. I mainly function as a test bed for David and Dad's most outlandish theories and ideas, and as a cheerleader for their ongoing research, and let me tell you, it's a wild ride!
